Costa Rica

The Republic of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a lovely, progressive, diverse nation that has been independent since September 15th, 1821.
Costa Rica's economy is basically strong, and depends on tourism, agriculture, and electronics exports. It is a country of political stability, high educational standards and literacy rates, religious tolerance, good medical care, active social programs, all without a standing military force. A largely agricultural country, its economy includes healthy technology and tourism sectors. The standard of living is relatively high, and land ownership is widespread. The Costa Rican people, nicknamed "Ticos" are friendly and accomodating, and justifiably proud of their splendid country.

Costa Rica is situated between Panama and Nicaragua, and enjoys two beautiful coasts, one on the Pacific Ocean and the other on the Caribbean Sea. Its coastal plains are separated by rugged mountains including over 100 volcanic cones, several of which are considered major volcanoes.
San José, the capital and largest city, is located in the large Central Valley.
The country is divided into seven provinces: Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Heredia, Limón, Puntarenas, and San José. Each has its own attractions and charms; none should be neglected as you plan your visit to this lovely country.
